Meet Monique

Monique is a digital media professional, advocate for women and youth in STEAM, and founder of The Civic Tech Collective.

She began her social impact journey as a Page for the Ohio House of Representatives and eventually as an intern on Capitol Hill. After graduating from The Ohio State University, with a B.A. in Public Affairs Journalism, life after college led Monique to pursue a somewhat non-traditional but rewarding career in media and tech.

Her first job landed her at a radio station in Atlanta, Georgia and eventually back home at the Ohio Senate, serving the Office of Communication and Senator Eric H. Kearney. Her desire to continue a career in public service continued at the Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences at Case Western Reserve University, where she received a Master of Science in Social Science Administration (M.S.S.A.) with a concentration in Community and Social Development and later as a graduate teaching assistant for the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism at Ohio University, where she received an M.A. in Media Arts Studies with concentrations in Public Broadcasting and Media Management. During her graduate study, Monique worked as both an audio and video editor, as well as on-air talent to host Shades of Color Radio and as the local anchor for PRI’s The Takeaway on WOUB’s television and radio stations.

In the fall of 2014, she discovered a unique opportunity to fuse all things community, media, and tech, into an exciting career in the ever-growing digital startup ecosystem, as a technical marketing student at the Startup Institute in Chicago, Illinois.

After Startup Institute, Monique founded SAVVY Consulting & Communications, LLC and served as the Director of Marketing and Social Media for Computer Training Institute of Chicago and later worked for other brands such as JeffreyM Consulting, McDonald’s Corporation and Urban Ministries, Inc (UMI).
