Design for America will bring together a national network of social innovators for the 2018 DFA Summit, August 1 through August 5, 2018, at Northwestern University. The organization was founded in 2008 by School of Engineering students and faculty director, Liz Gerber in an effort to empower students to innovate solutions to problems in their community using human-centered design. In 2009 DFA student co-founders Mert Iseri, Yuri Malina, and Hannah Chung founded the first DFA studio in the Segal Design Institute. Today, 38 colleges and universities contribute to the community transformation efforts of DFA by training interdisciplinary teams to identify meaningful challenges and develop sustainable solutions.

DFA is more than a collection of projects, it is a movement. It is students, mentors, alumni, community partners, entrepreneurs, researchers, industry experts, and users who work together to address major social issues. Their work generates insights and ideas that turn into companies and projects that last well beyond a semester schedule. The real work and personal experiences DFA projects afford changes everyone involved. This is the DFA Network. It’s designed to unite this diverse community of people to accomplish a common goal.
